About the Service

What does this service offer?

Ophthalmology Service

Refractive surgery comprises a group of procedures that change the way the eye focuses light, correcting refractive errors: myopia (blurry distance vision), hyperopia (blurry near vision) and astigmatism (distorted vision caused by an irregular corneal shape). In most techniques, a high-precision laser reshapes the surface of the cornea, altering its focusing power so that images fall precisely on the retina. The goal is to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses and contact lenses.

Benefits

Why Choose This Service?

Refractive surgery offers independence from glasses and contact lenses, with clear vision from the very first days after the procedure.

Laser procedures are fast, painless and performed on an outpatient basis, with no need for hospitalization.

Modern techniques such as femtosecond LASIK and SMILE provide very high precision, fast recovery and minimal risk.

The results are stable over time and significantly improve quality of life, making daily activities, sports and work easier.

Procedure

How Is the Treatment Carried Out?

1

First, a detailed evaluation is performed with corneal topography, thickness measurement (pachymetry), pupil diameter and tear film assessment, in order to rule out keratoconus and select the right technique.

2

Before the procedure, anesthetic drops are applied, without injection.

3

In LASIK, a femtosecond laser creates a thin layer (flap) in the cornea, which is lifted; an excimer laser then reshapes the corneal tissue and the flap is repositioned without sutures.

4

In PRK/LASIK, the surface is reshaped after the epithelium is removed, without creating a flap.

5

In SMILE, a thin disc of tissue (lenticule) that changes the cornea's power is removed through a very small incision.

6

The procedure itself lasts a few minutes per eye and is painless.

7

After the procedure, antibiotic and lubricating drops are applied; vision clears within 24 hours with LASIK and SMILE, and within a few days with PRK.

8

Rubbing the eyes, water and dust are avoided for several days, according to the doctor's instructions.
