Middle ear infections (otitis media) are among the most common reasons parents visit the doctor. About 75% of children experience at least one ear infection before the age of 3.
Symptoms to Watch For
- Ear pain — the child frequently touches or pulls the ear
- Mild to moderate fever
- Difficulty sleeping or unusual irritability
- Discharge from the ear
- Difficulty hearing or not responding to sounds
Prevention
A few simple measures can significantly reduce the risk of ear infections: breastfeeding, avoiding tobacco smoke, regular vaccination and good hand hygiene.
Early diagnosis and proper treatment prevent long-term complications. Do not neglect ear pain in your child.

If your child has recurrent infections, consult the ENT specialist to assess the need for an intervention such as placing tympanostomy tubes.
